Skin hyperpigmentation is caused by abnormal production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color and a consequence of uncontrolled, localized overproduction of melanin inside the melanocyte, which causes irregular skin coloration and dark spots. Numerous external and internal factors can cause hyperpigmentation and it affects more than 90% of adults at some stage in their life.

Cosmelan is the world’s leading hyperpigmentation ‘removal’ treatment from Mesoestetics. It treats Melasma, Chloasma,
Freckles, Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), caused by injury or acne, and Solar and senile lentigos dark spots from sun exposure). Exclusive to Nurse Deborah’s clinic in Cork.

Cosmelan inhibits tyrosinase activation within the melanosome and lowers the oxidative stress, which reduces the production of melanin. The result is to inhibit and control the development of new dark spots. Cosmelan is unique in that it is both corrective and preventive for immediate and long-term results. When the mask is applied and left on for the prescribed amount of time, you may see up to 95% reduction in the skin’s pigmentation on the surface of the skin within 30 days. A continued reduction in the skin’s pigment may be seen with daily application of Cosmelan 2.

As the Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is safe for all skin tones and ethnicities, anyone looking for a fresher, more even complexion can make a potential candidate. The ideal patient will fully understand the Cosmelan Chemical Peel process and the requirements for follow up care. They should also be in overall good health, and hold realistic expectations for their results. The benefits and risks of a Cosmelan Peel will be further discussed during the initial consultation appointment.

JThe Cosmelan Consultation

We schedule a consultation with each patient, before beginning any aesthetic treatment.
During this time, an evaluation of skin’s tone, texture, and facial anatomy will be performed.
They will take the medical history, as well as discuss the patient’s aesthetic goals and desires.
If it is determined that a Cosmelan Peel can achieve the desired results,
a unique treatment plan will be created.

  • 1Step

  • 2Step

The Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is a two-step process. The first part involves an in-clinic application of a stimulating mask; part two is the continued application of specific Cosmelan products from home. The initial treatment will take less than an hour in clinic.

Step 1 : The In-Office Mask

  • Skin is cleaned and prepped.
  • Cosmelan mask is applied in a thick layer.
  • Mask may lightly sting upon application, but will quickly reduce
  • Depending on the level of correction needed, the mask must stay on between six and twelve hours.
  • Patient is instructed on when and how to remove the mask at home.
  • An after-care kit will be provided.

Step 2:  The Home Care Regimen

  • After the specified time, the Cosmelan mask is removed with a gentle, neutral cleanser.
  • Immediately, the ……. is applied to comfort the skin and protect moisture.
  • Peeling generally begins two to three days after the mask’s application.
  • Cosmelan II cream should be applied two to three times a day for two weeks.
  • After the first 14 days, Cosmelan II can be applied once daily.

Within a week, patients will notice skin blemishes are beginning to fade, and a brighter a complexion is breaking through. After a couple weeks, the skin will take on a shiny, healthier glow. These results will continue to improve over the fourth or fifth week, when the full benefits of a Cosmelan Peel can be seen.Patients who commit to a daily routine will see the smooth results from the Cosmelan Peel last for many months to come. The skin will be delicate and sensitive the first two weeks after treatment; prolonged sun exposure should be avoided and a full spectrum sunscreen worn at all times.

Side effects from a Cosmelan Peel can include mild to moderate redness and discomfort (similar to a sunburn). It is also common for the skin to feel tight or itch. Occasionally more serious complications, such as scarring, can occur.

Other Advance Treatments

The Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is a moderate chemical treatment designed to decrease areas of hyperpigmentation, reducing the dark spots that occur due to sun exposure, acne, aging, and hormone fluctuation.
Cosmelan inhibits an enzyme called Tyrosinase, responsible for the manufacture of melanin. By slowing the melanin production, dark spots will soon fade.
The Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel can be safely used on the entire face.
The perfect candidate for a Cosmelan Peel will be in generally good health and understands the treatment process.
The Cosmelan Peel is not painful. Patients report a brief stinging sensation immediately as the peel is applied, although this lasts only a few minutes.
No, there is no need for any anesthesia before the Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel.
After the skin is cleaned, the Cosmelan solution will be applied to the face. Patients will remove the mask at home, in approximately six hours. Over the following several weeks, specific after-care creams will be used on a daily basis.
It will take less than half an hour to put the Cosmelan mask on.
Two to three days after the treatment is applied, the skin will begin to flake and peel. For these first few days, the face may feel tight, itch, and be slightly red.
After about one week, you will see the skin beginning to look brighter and more even in tone.
Patients are normally ready to return to work in a week or less, as soon as the heavy peeling has passed.
