SUN PROTECTION FACTOR – MY FAVORITES

La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 30 Smooth Lotion

Strictly speaking, this product shouldn’t have made the SPF list since we typically stick to mineral sunscreens when choosing our best products. This chemical sunscreen contains octocrylene and mexoplex. We’ve chosen this product because it is easy to lay your hands on when travelling around anywhere in Europe. It is stocked by most pharmacies on the continent. This product also gets the nod because it contains no parabens or preservatives. It is non-comedogenic and it is lanolin free. Lightweight and quickly absorbed into the skin, this is a broad-spectrum lotion that will protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays.  If you want more information on the product, you’ll find it at https://www.laroche-posay.co.uk/

Skinceuticals Mineral Matte UV Defence

If you have dry skin this is the ideal product for you since this mineral sun protection is slightly oilier than the others. This product will form the perfect canvas for your makeup so it makes a great choice for the perfectly made-up face. If you prefer not to wear a foundation you may find that the tinted version does the job for you. Yes, Skinceuticals comes in both tinted and untinted form. You choose. Nano titanium dioxide particles protect the skin from harmful UV rays and because the particles are very small this sunscreen does not leave white streaks on your skin. Avène Eau Thermale High Protection Mineral Cream SPF 50+

At 50+ this broad-spectrum sun protection lotion is a great choice if you have fair skin. The product is available in most pharmacies. It contains titanium dioxide which offers superior protection against both UVA and UVB rays. All Avene products contain pure spring water. They contain no parabens and will not aggravate sensitive skin. The one disadvantage of this product is that it tends to leave white streaks on darker skin. Mesoestetics

Mesoestetics is specifically designed to protect skin which is prone to pigmentation and uneven tone brought about by exposure to the sun’s harmful rays. It also has a slight tint so you can use it without a base if you so choose.

Mesoestetics is a leading designer and manufacturer of innovative SPF solutions. This product contains both physical and chemical barriers giving it a UVB protection factor of 131. The UVA protection factor is 67. It also has biological filters that help to protect the skin from IR and HEV. The melanin inhibitor helps to prevent the creation of melanin in the skin, thereby reducing the appearance of dark spots and uneven pigmentation. The how and when of SPF

How and when you apply sunscreen or suntan lotion is just as important as the level of protection that the product offers. Shake the bottle before applying it to the skin. If you use a serum or moisturiser apply the suntan lotion over this.

Use suntan lotion every day of the year regardless of whether the sun is shining or not. Always apply sun protection twenty minutes before exposure to the sun.

Blue Light

Blue light is also known as High Energy Visible HEV light. It causes damage to the skin as it generates free radicals. Medical research has shown that HEV can cause oxidative damage to the skin. Just like exposure to UVA rays, this will cause premature ageing.

To make matters worse blue light penetrates much deeper levels of the skin than either UVA or UVB rays. It reaches right into the dermis where the elastin and collagen reside. This results in the skin losing its elasticity with the resultant sagging and wrinkling.

Blue light also causes pigmentation which has the effect of making us look older. According to studies blue light may even cause higher levels of pigmentation than ultraviolet.

Studies have shown that night time exposure to blue light disturbs the circadian rhythms of the skin, preventing the skin’s natural repair work that takes place at night. This too can lead to premature ageing and dark circles under the eyes.
